Visiting the temple

Everybody who wishes to come and stay in Won Kwang Sa for some time, practice and help the temple, is welcome to come at any time, except for scheduled periods of winter retreat. Conditions of stay are same for all guests - attending daily formal practice and following the temple rules.

Payment

If you wish to come and stay at the temple, you pay daily fee of 5 EUR and work during the usual working hours (from 8.00 to 11.00 am). If you are a professional and would like to come to help with specialized work (mostly carpentry or masonry), you can stay for free or receive a token payment, depending on the arrangement with the temple staff.

Accommodation & Equipment

Guests are accommodated in simple dormitories, men and women separated. In summer, guests can bring their own tents and stay on the main meadow. You will also need your own sleeping bag, towel, house shoes and torch (or head-lamp). In case of rainy weather, you will need to bring rubber boots and water-proof jacket.

Early notice of your visit

If you plan to visit the temple even for a short while, please let us always know in advance. It helps us to take good care of you when you arrive. It is not possible to come and stay without any previous arrangement with the temple office. Thank you for your understanding in that regard.
